07/09/2001 Entry: "Microsoft Windows XP, RC1"
I'm trying out the new Windows XP RC1 (Release Candidate 1) release, and it's going quite good. I'm not too fond with the whole LUNA look, but there is enough great about the operating system to like...
I'm a BIG fan of the Cleartype Technology (First found in Microsoft Reader). From the also-hip Help And Support Centre, "Choosing ClearType for your screen fonts makes the words on your computer screen look as smooth as the words on a page. ClearType dramatically improves font resolution, so your existing spreadsheets, word processing documents, and Web pages display with crystal clarity. ClearType is intended for display on flat screen monitors, so it is ideal for portable computers and other flat screen devices. ClearType may appear slightly blurry on desktop computer monitors that do not have a flat screen."
I haven't a flatscreen display, nor do I have a laptop. I have a regular CRT monitor, and I still like the blurriness of the fonts. It makes everything feel like ALL font sizes are anti-aliased, much like a Macintosh OS8.5+.
I think I'll do a special article about Windows XP...
