05/30/2004 Entry: "Irvin"

I met Irvin for the second time, today. The first time I met this dude, he was a little more sober and a little more sharper, but now he's drunk on ... i'm not sure what. Can't be beer, it didn't smell like it. I guided him to Coffee Time, and got him a coffee, black, and a donut. Spent some time with him, but not as much as I would have.

Which leads me to wonder: if Jesus were here, would he be providing a service to those on the streets, or spending time with them, one on one?

I wish sometimes, that I could devote my entire life to street ministry, and not just serve dinner to those who need it, but spend time with them. Get to know each one I meet, and not so much supervise their reintegration to society, but just to let them be as they are, and hope for a new future for them, rather than tend to their initial needs, and that would be it.

Like at the Mustard Seed (which I visited, and spent a bit of time at, in Calgary when I was there). Those requiring the 'ambulance service' that the first floor (and our Siloam Mission) provide, are free to accept, but if they want to get off the street, there is a program that allows them to do so.

I haven't heard any success stories regarding patrons of the Seed or of Siloam, but maybe I don't know where to look.

In other news, I reformatted my computer, reinstalled Classic and X 10.3. First time I had to reformat since 1997. I love Macs.
